Colebridge take the main titles at The Leamington Closed – report by John Taylor.

Colebridge mopped up the main events at the Leamington Closed finals, held on the afternoon and evening of Saturday 13th April 2013 at Eathorpe Village Hall. Ian Ferguson and Kate Hughes led the way winning their respective singles events, and partnering each other to win the mixed doubles.

Ian overcame Warwickshire’s Mark Jackson (St Georges) in five sets 3, 2, -6, -7, 6 to win the Mens final, whilst Kate beat Tracey Fletcher (St Georges) 5,4 10 to take her final. Unfortunately Ian lost out in the final of the Mens doubles; partnering the fast improving Jesse Kendrick Hill (Rugby) the pair narrowly lost out to Mark Jackson and Earl Sweeney (St Geogres) -8, -6, 2, 7, -11. It was better news for Kate, partnering Jo Outhwaite (Rugby) the pair beat Olivia and Tracey Fletcher (St Georges) 6, 9, 3. In the mixed doubles Ian and Kate took on Tracey Fletcher and Earl Sweeney (St Georges) winning 2, 10, 4.

Sophie and Lisa Rinnhofer were prominent in the Girls junior events. Lisa beat Oliva Fletcher (Free Church) to take the Cadet Girls Singles 10, 10, 11. The girls however, could not add to their winning tally; Sophie lost out to Milly Green (Free Church) in the final of the Girls Under 11 Singles 10, -3, 5, -9, -8 and Lisa lost out to Holly Thompson (Eathorpe) -8, -7, -7 in the Girls Singles Final.

In other events Lisa and Mike Rinnhofer were beaten by Alice and Martyn Todd (Free Church) in the final of the Parent and Child Doubles event 7, -12, 12, -8, -6 and in the final of the Grade 1 singles Kate was beaten by Jesse Kendrick Hill (Rugby) -6, -11, 4, 4, -6.

Prior to the finals day Lisa Rinnhoferhad won the under 13 Girls singles and John Taylor had beaten John Chandler in the Over 60s final; both finals being played on the 24th March. .
