Colebridge AGM and awards presentation – July 6th 2012

Colebridge has had a successful twelve months.

This was reflected at our well attended AGM last Friday ( July 6th ) , at which we were glad to welcome club President , Lorely Burt.

Her continuing support will be crucial if we are to secure future funding for the roof renovation which the club urgently requires.

It was Mrs Burts’ pleasure to award the trophies , pictured below , to members for their outstanding contibution over the previous year , and beyond.

Without wishing to embarrass these recipients ; it seems appropriate to publish the remarks made by Club and League Secretary Neil Wheatley to explain their recognition  –

“Young Member of the Year (Roy Prosser Shield – named after our longest serving member, who joined in the early 1960s, was Club Leader from 1980 to 1985 and Hon Treasurer from to 1996-2011. )

2010 – presented with replica – Amit Ubhi.

2011 – presented with shield – Sam Henderson. 14 year old Sam was chosen because of the splendid example he sets for the other junior members, both on and off the table. He is always one of the first to volunteer when any coach or leader asks for help.

Young Player of the Year (Neil Wheatley Shield – named after our current Club and League Secretary, who has just relinquished the post of Club Leader held since 1990)

2010 – presented with replica collected by his brother – Amann Uhbi.

2011 – presented with shield- Todd Marshall. 13 year old Todd was chosen because of his remarkable performances for our National Cadet and Junior League teams and for the impact he made when he was drafted into the Colebridge Lions Birmingham Division 5 team, to replace a player who had left the Club. He came second in the Individual averages in Division 1 of the NCL and only joined the NJL Braves team, as a reserve, although he played in all but one of the matches, winning most. He won 15 out of 18 league games for Lions and in the Jim Whitehead Cup final against the Hawks , he took games off all 3 of his Division 3 opponents, including 2 from the Division’s individual runner-up, John Cox, to square the match in the opening set. He is now recovering from a serious operation to correct a leg problem.

Club Member of the Year – A new award introduced to acknowledge outstanding effort and performance both on and off the table by a senior member. This year’s winner, Kate Hughes, was a most worthy choice. She is an inspirational coach, as the girls and ladies who attend her Friday afternoon will attest, as well as an outstanding player, having represented Colebridge in the top divisions of both Birmingham and Leamington Leagues, won almost all of the Women’s events in local tournaments for the last two years, represented Worcestershire Senior County team, and reached No 29 in the ETTA ranking ;list. As if that was not enough, she has added many fine touches to the interior of our club, including cleaning and painting the Kitchen and the floor in the Gents toilet.”
