Chiefs recover after pow-wow

Free Church E  7 Colebridge Chiefs  3

Match report by Neil Wheatley.

At 7-0 down against Free Church E last night, it looked as though Colebridge Chiefs were going to suffer Leamington Division 2’s first whitewash of the season. Chiefs late arrival at Radford, caused by new recruit, Awais Muhammed, getting lost en route to the meeting place, may have contributed to their poor start, but the rather humid conditions at the HQ did not help.

Chiefs revival came when conditions improved after the departure of the players from the other match in the room, Neil Wheatley at last finding the range with his defensive skills to defeat youngster Tom Harris.

Awais, has replaced Mike Credland, whose back injury has ruled him out for the rest of the season, and the youngster overcame his initial nervousness to edge out County Junior, Olivia Fletcher, in 5 games, noteworthy for some fine examples of hitting and counter-hitting by both players.

Neil and John Overton then surprised themselves and their younger opponents, Olivia and Phil Blowey, with a 3-1 doubles success.

An enjoyable and friendly match, marred only by the complete lack of any refreshments.
