Hard Days Night. Giants v Dinosaurs. Match report by Brian Morris.
Both teams needing maximum points for different reasons made this a tense nervy night.
The opening encounter saw Mark Hadley getting the better of Jim Connor in 5, putting the under dogs one up.
Brian Morris looked well in command against Chris Allen , winning the first game 11-0 , only falling prey to a little over confidence as they fought out a 5 setter , Brian saving four match points, winning from 6-10 down in the fifth.
1-1 . Would Dan Ranford steady the Dinosaur ship? Answer was no. Mr Usually Reliable crumbled to Mr Penholder demolition man Micky Bere in three.
Giants 2-1 up , upset very much on the cards. Squeaky bum time on Dinosaurs seats ,when the Connor chop defence came to the rescue against Chris Allen in 4.
Dinos’ Ranford and Connor found some rhythmn from panicky doubles of missed putaways to help Dinos’, 3-2 up.
Though still much work to do maximum points was now in sight for Dinosaurs as confidence started at last to run through their veins and Giants were worried they might get no points at all.
Mark the tax man success against the Landscaper Dan from the first half of the season was not going to be repeated as Dan took a tax rebate in four.
Brian no forehand Morris used his no forehand topspin to good effect beating Micky Bere in four.
Chris Allen couldn’t prevent the landscaper Ranford putting the Dinos 2-6 up with Dinos’ Jim and Brian helping the Dinosaurs to the magic 4 point 8-2.
Difficult for those watching (Mr & Mrs Oliver and umpire Roger Townson) and those playing , nevertheless sets it up nicely for the meet up of Chiefs vs Dinosaurs next Monday,tickets on sale at the door.
